Specificities for heavy goods vehicles in Great Britain
In Great Britain, a tax is charged on each vehicle using the
motorway network, depending on the length of the journey. Foreign truck drivers
exceeding the permissible total weight of 12 tonnes must pay the HGV Road User
Levy for the use of public roads. Coaches are exempt from the tax.
The amount of the toll is
calculated according to the following criteria:
- type of vehicle**
- total weight
- axle configuration
To save time, truck and coach drivers can use the Dartford Tunnel
for an additional fee.
A detour can be made if they do not wish to cross it.
